Fick and Frack..

Well, here we go, my first jelling of the season, a friend called for help yesterday, her furnace went out. On the way there in our balmy 7* weather the truck started to act as if it was out of gas. Died right there in the middle of the road (35mph zone no real shoulder o speak of) I rolled up as far as I could through the snow bank, got out with the magic red bottle, and crossed my fingers. Dumped in her in, started up the truck, locked in 4x4 to get back out of the bank, and barely made it the rest of the way.

Once I got to the sub I started hitting the brakes and gas, as much as I could to slosh it. Left the truck running in the friends drive way while I worked on her furnace. Came out, thought I was good to go.

This morning, I barely made it to work, you couldnt tell I was having problems though, it seems everyone was happy at 25 mph in a 45-50mph zone. It may have been icy, but my truck didnt have the ***** to nitce today..frick and frack

oh crap, I'm only about an hour or two from you Pat. I'm still trying to use up the gray bottle of DK. I don't have the winter dose in right now. If I add to the tank now and leave it sit for about 4 hours will it work its magic? Or should I put the red bottle in?

I think I had gelling issues yesterday too Pat, but mine never died. It just had no power and could barely get out of it's own way. I made it to a safe spot and dumped in a bottle of 911, proceeded to drive around a large parking lot for 5-10 minutes to distribute it throught the tank(which is full) and get it into the fuel bowl.

I had been filling with straight #2 and adding about 10 ounces of white bottle DK with every fill up(20 gallons at a time) Now, I'll start using blended fuel and hope to have no more issues the rest ofthe winter.

Pat, I will tell you the same thing I told Mike. If you have the CCV mod and it runs to the back of the truck try either disconnecting it or cut it near the drivers door. Those are the same symptoms I had a couple years ago when my line froze. Now I disconnect in the middle for the winter and connect it again in the spring.

Thank you Jay, but no, I havent done the CCV mod.. For what ever reason, I still dont see a light oil mist being drawn accross the turbo, and mating surfaces, as being bad..

Have you tried adding in a couple gallons of fuel to your tank? Put another 5 gallons in from the pump - that should "stir things up" to help get it mixed, but I'd personally be adding in the white-bottle DK as well.

An entire bottle of DK < $20. How much would a tow cost you in time and dollars?

No, all I did was limp into work this morning, once here, If an issue exist, I have just about everything I need to move forward, such as a nice warm place for her to rest in overnight, if needed..

Just got back from the station... it is less then a half mile away, and it took nearly 10 mins. Once i put in the 10 more gallons needed to top, looks like I am home free.. well see..

Fuel from a below ground tank will help if you can find it.

And don't forget to buy another bottle of 911, you might need it again soon.

Don't ask me why I know that.

I didn't see you mention it so I will, change your fuel filter. It still could be gelled even though you used diesel 911. Had that happen to me once in -34 degree weather and once I changed the filter, it was ok......

That sucks Pat!

I've dealt with gelling plenty with my semi. My previous one didn't have tank heaters, I put one in one tank and about quit using anti-gel it worked so well. My current truck has the coolant lines run into the tank and at these temps, -8* around 4am this morning, I still haven't had an issue.

Knock on wood, I've never had a problem with my pickup. You gotta start early with the additive, even before it's cold, to get it worked through the system. Hopefully you're back to normal operating procedure! I've had my big truck gel up bad enough it wouldn't even run, left me on the side of the road. That get's cold!!
