I'm replacing the weather strip across the top of the inside door panels. It was held on by these monster staples. Any suggestions how I can install the new ones? I'll post a picture if you aren't sure what I'm talking about.
Yeah, post pics, I don't recall ever seeing staples put in at the factory to hold that stuff on
nor can I udnerstand a reason why staples would be needed, possibly you have something
added by a PO at one time.
Yeah he's right, there are about 5 to 7 staples holding the weatherstripping to the inside door panel where the panel meets the glass. I replaced the weatherstrip pieces on mine this past summer and you have to take the door panels off, pull the staples out to get the old piece off, then replace.
I just straitened the staples out with pliers, and reused them. I couldn't think of any other way to connect it to the door panel securely without it coming off down the road.
I replaced mine also. I pulled the staples out and used 1/8" x 1/4"L pop rivets with 1/8 small washers on the inside where they expand so they didn't crack the plastic. I put 4 per side, drill the holes close to were the staples were so the window doesn't hit the rivet head.

Good idea.
I'll post a pic tonight when I get home. My staples broke from rust so I can't reuse them. And my staple gun won't go through.
Ok, here's some pics. First is the back of the door panel. Second is the weather strip placed where it goes on the door panel. Third if you look close you'll see the two vampire holes of the huge staples Ford use to attach the weather strip to the door panel.
No those look like they were replaced. They are in really good shape. The truck was in a wreck some time in the past so some things have been replaced. These strips weren't and they were rotted.
Maybe I can just use some heavy wire and make my own staples.
Great ideas, glue will help stop water from leaking into the door and Lowes/Northern Tool usually solve most of my "interesting" problems. I think I'll stop tonight.
