Based on searches I have determined that all diesels have a block heater and all I need to do is purchase the cord. Has anyone purchased the cord and installed to the existing block heater? My truck did not come with the block heater option. I looked on page 30 of the 2011 6.7 diesel brochure to see the heater and with further research I have determined where it is located on the engine. Based on the pics I am unable to find it. In the pics it is really easy to locate however when under the truck it appears as though the starter is in the way of locating the connection. I have felt around to see what I can find but seem to missing it. Any help would be appreciated. I am traveling from St Louis to Fargo and Bismarck ND for xmas and realize I will need to plug in with temps at night falling below 0. I would like to do the install myself to avoid paying labor but if I am unable to locate the connection I may need to pay the price.
On pg 11 it shows the location. I had similar ideas and asked about price of just the cord. Guess what? It's basically the same as the entire heater ~$100. FORD is really proud of those cords! As I recall though I could see the heater location from the wheel well. Didn't get the cord yet.
I guess I'm confused about the cord. Mine has a cord that is behind the grill, at the right side. If I use the block heater I intend to use a heavy duty extension cord to plug into the outlet in the garage.

They did not get the engine block heater option from the factory, therefore they do not have the cord that comes from the block to the front grille. Apparently all the engines have the heater, it is the cord that you see at the grille that you are paying for when you order the option.

Remember that it's not a high-wattage element. My George Foreman grill uses more electricity than this thing!
You can see the location of the block heater element from the wheel well just above the starter but not all of us have an element... I don't... and there have been several other reports of no element installed. If you didn't order the optional chord, there is a chance that you may not have the element... even though it is supposed to be standard on all blocks.
Can someone get a picture of the block heater element. I have literally crawled all over the place looking for the block heater and had no such luck locating the heater. When I took it in for an oil change at the Ford Dealership, I had the mechanics crawl all around looking for the block heater. They finally came back and said its not there and that if my window sticker didnt say block heater on it that the truck did not come with one. ( My sticker DID NOT say block heater). My salesman did however tell me that it was standard on all trucks that are bought in the northern states.(I bought my truck just East of Toledo Ohio, and thats why I didnt request it when I built my truck).
Any help would be great. I'm heading back to Michigan in a couple weeks and would like to be able to plug her in when I get home.
Don't feel bad, not only did I pay for the option and not get it, but there is a socket head plug in the place where the so called standard heater element is supposed to be. If indeed the actual heating element was standard as it is supposed to be, the cord is cheaper from the parts counter than the $75 option on the order sheet.
My brother's truck came out of dealer stock and didn't have a cord so he bought it from the parts department for under $50 as I remember. He hasn't tried to install it yet, I bet he doesn't have a heating element either.
Thanks for the support. I do see the socket head plug I believe you are talking about and thats why I asked for some help from the mechanics at the Ford dealership. About 5 mechanics came over with flashlights and started looking. I'm in Atlanta, Georgia and this was the first 6.7 engine they have ever looked at. ( I know they did my oil change...scarrrrryyy!)

Ohio is not listed ( don't ask me why not ) but your dealer should have known this. You may want to take this up with your salesman.
