Tire Size help

I had another thread in the tire/rim section asking about new rims and tires. I was told to just use my stock rims for 33's. My question is what Size tire should I get? I want the largest tire that will not give me problems such as rubbing. The plan was to get rims and a lift but with the recent purchase of a home, I need to settle for just tires right now for winter.

I have the stock rims/tires on her now(2002 XLT lariat f350 V10 4 door) What Size should I go to? I'm also not sure of about how the normal sizes such as 265-75-16 converts to 33x12.5x16.5, just as an example.

Thanks.

the size you are shooting for if you want 33's is either a 285/75/r16. this will be about 10-10.5 wide. or a 305/75/r16 will be about 11-12 wide. 34' tall tire is the 295/75/r16
and 35" tires are 315/75/r16. on my 04 i had 315/75/r16 bfg mudds and they only rubbed at full turn to the left. no lift stock rims. that will be the largest tire you will fit on stock rims with out a lift. depending on the wheel offset will depend on what aftermarket wheel and tire combos will fit. my wife's stepdad has a v10 excursions running 285/75/r16 nito terra grapplers and he rubs a bit on a full turn similar to my 04. it rubs on the spring because of the added width of the tires mainly

So 315/75/16 is a 35'' but does rub a little? What about a 305/75/16? That should be a little less wide and not rub then right?

And is a 75' series tire what people normally stay with? Is there no 80?

Thanks for the info!

no he said 285s will rub a little so 305 and 315s will rub more respectively...There are no common tires that come with a higher ratio of 75 once you get past 255 in width...Example there are 235 85 and 255 85 both are skinny and tall tires but once you get to widths of 265+ sidewall ratios tend to stay at or below 75

He said this about his truck and the 285 about the excursion. So this to me means the 35's only rub slightly at full turn.

The 35" (315) tires rubbed at full turn on my truck. The 305 is roughly the same width. The excursion rubbed less with 285 tires. Keep in mind though the excursion seems to sit lower than either of my f250 trucks. The place you will have it rub is when you make a sharp turn like in parking senarios. To me I wasn't worth going to a smaller tire size since I liked the look of the tires. They filled out the wheel wells nicely. I also thought about a leveling kit but came to the conclusion since I was hitting the spring I wouldn't gain anything lifting the truck. It was a issue with wheel back spacing. Now to get a different off set wheel I probably would have needed a leveling kit since the tires would have been farther out from stock. If you look at my albums I'm pretty sure there are pictures of my 04. It was white with tan on the bottom. The pictures are with the 315 bfg km mud terrains.

Yea I have the same feelings as you. I'd rather deal with the rub till I get a new set of rims. Thanks for posting up Lub!

Ill see if I can find some pics of the old truck. They are likely on another forum or I bet I have them on my computer at the house. The wheels I had (don't really know if different sd wheels are different widths) were the lariat 16" rims from a 04. They have the star pattern. Let me hunt down the pictures. I personally didn't want any more lift than I absolutely had to have since using the truck trumps looks in my book.

Tire Size Question

OK...This is my first post!
I have a 2008 Lariat XLT (5.4 L V8 - Gas).

The stock tires that came with the truck are Goodyear Wranglers (275/75/R20). I am thinking of going to a 315/75 R20...is that doable? Or should go with a 305? I am new at this stuff. I know I could go bigger with a lift, but that isn't in the budget!

Thanks for any answers!

I'm certain a 285-305 would work. The 315 should be tight and might need a leveling spacer. They can be had fairly cheap though. With the 315 I would expect it to potentially rub the bumper based on the different piviot point of the wider front axle and the shallower off set wheel on the 2005+ frame

Thanks! I was thinking the 305 would be OK...didn't know how bad the 315 would rub.

I have never had any issues with the Nitto Terra Grappler 285/75R16E tires on my stock wheels. I've looked at other sizes but want to stay with E rated tires. I would like to go up to 35's but stock wheels are only 7" wide and I'm not too sure how something like a 305 or 315 would fit. Personally I prefer a taller tire not a wider one. That can be done with something like Rickson 19.5" wheels, but it's not cheap.... then again they claim to get a lot longer tire life. Still, I can get three sets of tires for the stock wheels for what it would cost to upgrade to the 19.5's, and as always money has never just grown on the trees around here.
