The chances that this 390 made 600 hp. are Zero to None. Walk away from this deal. If someone tells you one lie, you can't trust them. I paid over $1,800 for just the port job on my heads. I stopped counting after $15,000 on my project, and it is a 434 ci. not a 390ci.

lol, I have gathered that. I only wanted the engine becasue of the alum heads (For some stupid reason I thought that all 428 cj heads were alum or something ). I am going 460 way now anyway.

It's also doubtful someone would merely change cams (and maybe intake)and drop the price to $300. The cost of the new cam alone, plus lifters and gaskets might be be about $300.

I'm very trusting, but in this case, something smells fishy.
I agree- something is really not right here......in 1980 I built a datusn 640 truck, assembling the engine myself, parts & machine work was $1200 (yeah a few custom parts in that mix), in 1986, my 289 V8 cost me $3500 (yeah a few custom parts there too), but to build a BB today with any (mild) HP parts would surely be $2k!

Just to be clear here, the machine work was done by the guy doing the building, (he had a machine shop setup avalable to him, or worked in a shop or something). If the machine work and assembly were free, I would assume that it would cut down the cost quite a bit.
