My truck came without a horn, and I have no idea where to begin with wiring. Can anyone tell me where to look for the wires that work the horn, and where to buy a horn to use. The louder the better Thanks.
It would be helpfull if you got a wiring diagram - the online store here sells them in a complete repair manual, or Haynes and Chiltons sells them too.
The horn should be located between the battery and radiator. To test the horn, run a temprorary wire from the positive battery terminal to the terminal on the horn. The horn should sound, if not then the horn is bad, or has a bad ground where it bolts to the radiator support.
The horn relay is bolted to the inner fender well next to the starter solinoid, it should click when the horn button is pushed. If not, then you have a wiring problem in the column or from column to relay or bad relay.
Try going to your local wreckers and looking at some Buicks and Cadillacs. They usually have 3 or 4 tone horns on them. On my '78, I put 2 stock same tone horns on it and it sounds very good.
