I recently purchased a 1985 F150 Boss Hoss 351 Windsor 4X4 in running condition. Original body, original milage(less than a 100,000). Manual four speed. One owner, needs minor mechanical work, interior work, and minor body repair. What is the value of this truck?
Did you buy it to sell it, or for your personal use? If it's for personal use, then it's value is dependent on you, and what you want/need the truck for.
To some, my truck is a piece of crap. To me, it's beyond any monetary value. It provides me a work vehicle, AND a hobby.
At 53, and all my (7) children grown, and being semi-retired with a little home based art shop to keep the lights on, my truck is a Godsend. It gives me something to tinker with that's all me. The wife has her own thing, this one is mine.
When I finally get my new rear springs installed (which are right now lying on the front porch), the satisfaction that "I did it!" will be priceless.
Well I am 55 ..wishing i was retired...honestly i just dont have time for another project..but the problem i keep encountering is that i cannot find 1 single listing or website for this truck...i know its extremely rare...and only 500 were made. I got it in a trade and received 2 or 3 offers on the way to my home..so i know it is valuable...i called a ford dealership and even they couldnt help me...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I worked with someone that bought one new when they came out. They bought it about the same time that I bought my truck (from the same dealership). They only had it less than 2 months and a semi-dump truck ran a red light while his wife was driving it (no-one was hurt), the truck was totaled. The dealership could not replace it with another one, for some reason or another. As I recall, it was a very nice truck.
So how is a "Boss Hoss" different from a regular F150?
The only thing that I recall is that it was 4wd, had a 351, 4 speed, maybe a slight lift, and decals, his was black w/red interior. I think it even had special wheels, but I'm not sure. I recall that I thought he paid too much for what he got.
Surely didn't come from the factory with those tires. The trailer hitch isn't very "boss"! Just joking, its a nice truck.
Maybe the "Boss Hoss" designation was similar to the "Highboy" designation of some F250's. Meaning it didn't come with an official "emblem" on the truck, but rather refered to a certain set of options.
If it didn't come with any emblem or other way of "proving" its a bona fide limited edition truck, that wouldn't help its resale value.

Look at the picture of the door, it has a "Boss Hoss" sticker on it. I think that truck has been altered, more lift, different wheels.
A Single Dealer, or a group of dealers (usually owned by the same person) would get together and make a option package group.
Other names of dealer packages...
Alberta Special
Texas Special
These would have a group of options that most of the customers at that specific dealer wanted. A/C and Super cooling packages for warm climates, and high output heaters, high altutude, and engine block heaters for colder climates as examples.
There is absolutely no official information about these from Ford. The only chance of finding anything out is to go back to the dealer that first sold the truck, and ask them. (I wouldn't hold my breath for them to be able to tell you anything after 25 years, but someone may still be working there from that long ago perhaps...)
