51 three speed trans
On the side shifter 3 speed trans . I have the front seal is leaking. I say this because when I took it apart the housing was wet with the sticky 90 weight lube. Also when the trans was not level,oil came out. Shouldn't you be able to tilt the the trans without leaking? After taking off the throw out assembly and the input shaft cover can you replace the seal, or do you have to take the input shaft out?Thanks George

Not all light-duty 3-sp's have a seal in the front. There is a slinger in front of the bearing. While they show 48 - 52 all having the seal, in a previous thread a lot of trannies have been found without the seal. Mine doesn't have one, and doesn't leak. You may have had too much fluid (overfill). If your tranny has a seal, it is P/N 78-7052.
