idle

how well should a fed 97 psd idle ? mine is rough and has poor throttle responce. a customers 97 cali was in and it is as smooth as my 95 gasser, with a nice smooth power curve.

i have replaced one inj.( was compleatly dead - good compression on all 8 ) and it passes a balance test. fuel pressure is good, valve cover gaskets are new, newer known good 120 idm - oil is new as is the fuel filter. cam sensor is a newer gray, but it sounds like **** and had very bad driveability. should it idle like/ simmiler to a factory superduty ?

Ya, it should idle just fine, around 600rpm. Any oil in the icp? Try unplugging it and see if it starts/runs better. Second time I typed the icp thing in this morning. Don't know if it will help, but is easy to try.

It won't idle similar to a super duty.. The super duty and Cali model OBS trucks have split shot injectors which are smoother running than our single shots are, but your truck shouldn't be as you describe it... It should idle pretty dang smooth, just not quite as nice and quiet as a cali or SD.

thats what i thought, but its been a while since i had a pre 97 in the shop. the ipc is clean, pressure on the scanner shows round 600 at idle and ive seen just over 2800 at max rpm and boost ( which is also a little low at 11 psi )

it just pulled down 15.2 mpg on the last tank ( at a max of 60 mph ) however the drivability sucks, and lack of power makes me want to drive my 5.8

it goes in on monday for a new cps at the dealer for the recall even though it has a gray sensor now, but i am getting a p0344 on occasion

Well the grey sensor has been known to sometimes cause bad fuel mileage, but not driveability... What is it doing that makes it suck to drive? Just really low on power? Have you tried unplugging the EBPV? How does the FPR screen look?

it seams to almost have a miss fire at idle, if it was a gas rig id say it needed a major tune up or bad gas. its smooth at 2-3k but below it shakes a little and jerks. its really bad around 1k-1200.

i tied the ebpv open and it didnt change the total power. i havent done the screen yet. would it cause it to run that bad ? i was thinking i might have a weak injector someware else, but it passes a controbution test.
