V-10 gas mileage??????
What can I expect for gas mileage. im looking into buying a V-10 4x4 Excursion soon. I need some real world info from people who have V-10's. Im tired of all the crap I hear from dealers trying to sell me a Diesel, although I know the Diesel is good I can get a V-10 Excursion for about $3-5k cheaper. Thanks for the info? Im looking for all around avg mileage. 25 miles to work and some around town during the weel.

Not exactly an Excursion, but the V-10 in my F-250 gets about 10-11 MPG in town, and 12.5-13.5 on the interstate @75 MPH. One trip where the speed was reduced to 60 MPH on a long stretch of highway, I got almost 15 MPG. The trick is to keep a light foot on the gas.

V-10 gas mileage??????
I bought a used E-350 with a V-10 3 weeks ago. There were 21,436 miles on it at that time. The drive home was 1300+ miles. At 75mph+ I averaged 14.6mpg. I have not yet pulled a good city average, however it looks to be about 10+mpg. Now something else you must look at is the cost of service. When you go to do warranty maintaince 15k-30k ect. what will it cost? I would think about hrs.at $50ea. just to change sparkplugs. Hint, look hard under the hood, and pull the engine cover from inside. Just the thought is scarry. Compare the service recomendations to see how much more you may have to spend. Remember the diesel has a $4K resale premium. My decision to buy my van was $'s I got a great deal through an E-bay seller.

Use the search feature of this site. The topic has been beaten to death!
Main points:
- Diesel costs way more to buy
- Diesel costs more to maintain
- Diesel fuel costs more in most places
- Diesel gets better fuel mileage overall, and way better towing
In the end, buy what you want and can afford.

V-10 gas mileage??????
The V10 is not for the person on a tight budget, Power comes at a cost and at todays fuel prices an average week of driving (under 400 miles) is going to lighten your wad by roughly $50.///x4='s $200.//x12='s $2400.00. equate this by the total price you put on the happiness of driving a big truck .........in my mind the cost of driving my Super Duty, and for the experience derived from doing so is priceless!!! ......you can expect 10.5 city.......13.5 highway..........maybe a tad more.
Remember , when you hit the gas pedal of a V10 your face will begin to grin..............from the G Forces you are experiencing!!

V-10 gas mileage??????
I drive 50 miles each way to work on a daily basis. Half of it is highway the rest is secondary roads. I am getting a solid 12.5 with mine. I try to keep it under 2,000 RPMs. Everyone has already said all there is to say, it's your money and choice for what engine you buy. The power of the V-10 and lower cost sold me.

V-10 gas mileage??????
I get 11 to 12 mpg city and can break 13 on a highway trip not towing or hauling anything. Pulling my trailer drops it down to 10 but I've only pulled maybe 4500lbs at the most. I did notice my mileage got better as it broke in. Have 6700 miles now and no problems or complaints at all. The mpg is just right where I expected it to be.
On a side note-that snow storm we got 2 wks ago had me keeping the SD in 4wd for several days stright due to I spent the first 2 days driving around in 20" of unplowed snow. Also did alot of idling. My mileage for that tank of gas was under 9mpg! Worth it though to be in the roughly 10% of vehicles that weren't rendered completely useless due to the deep snow. Even compact 4wd pickups and many smaller suvs/awd cars were going nowhere.

My 2001 V-10 Excursion XLT gets around 12 to 13 mpg around town, and around 16 to 17 on the highway if I keep it around 70 mph and don't climb any extreme grades. It even will get 19 mpg if I keep it around 55.
Mt 2003 V-10 F-250 SD Crew Cab XLT will do about the same on the highway. Just did a 430 mile trip yesterday on the Eastern Sierra's and got 16.7 mpg, and there are some pretty steep grades on US 395 ( 8100 ft. at Conway Summit). The truck is a liitle lighter in weight than the "X", I am not sure how much. Both vehicles have auto trans and 3.73 gears.

V-10 gas mileage??????
Many times when people compare the PSD to the V10 they don't mention the comfort factor of the quieter V10. After years of listening to my f250 diesel growl for hours on end I decided that the V10 was for me. The PSD may get to the top of the hill first but the V10 driver will be happier because he doesn’t have a headache form listening to the motor or having the radio on to loud. The fuel the PSD saves the driver spends on aspirin or earplugs. The PSD driver will ether miss out on stimulating conversations with his wife or will be frustrated from having to talk over the engine noise. I like the diesel power but on most trips I don't need it. For me the V10 tows just fine. If economy is your bag you are talking to the wrong crowd, maybe Toyota owners have a forum. I love the V10 but fuel economy sucks so I don't talk about it, denial is not just a river in Egypt.

V-10 gas mileage??????
If u assume u can get diesel for the same amount as gas, and tow the vehicle exclusively, its a little over 4 cent a mile with a 90,000 mile payback. If your like me, 12 cents higher for diesel in my town and don't tow too much it can be 2 cent per mile with payback at 188,000 miles. I've got only got a little over 46,000 miles on mine and had it since June 1998. I know what the right decision was for me.

V-10 gas mileage??????
Ditto JAKEBRAKE's mileage. I have the 2002 X V10. Most recent trip was 3 hours on I-95 from NC to SC. Drove 68mph going south and got up to 17.4 mph. Coming back heading North, pushed 80 to 85 (Flow of traffic was fast with others passing me) and got 14.4.
I was very happy considering this 8000# rig. This was also with a load of 4 adults and weekend packing gear.
Considering my 1991 GMC K1500 4X4 5.7L V8 Extended cab with 180,000 miles, my mileage is better with my V10 on the trip, however around town driving it is a little worse, but only by approx. 1mpg which I feel is no big deal.
Of course, the power does not compare. The V10 is powerful and fun to drive. I love it!
Also to consider in the comparison with my GMC is that the Excursion weighs about 2000#'s more!
