The parts book is fairly useless in this case as after almost fifty years or a even multiple rebuild's there could be anything in there.
Garbz
Instead of saying "almost fifty years" how about saying "after 45 years,2 months and 4 days there could be anything in there."
Geez, get with it, Garbz.
She bangs!
Drained the gas, added new gas with seafoam, tapped the valves loose the intakes were stuck pretty good put all new pushrods in, turned by hand and had one valve returning very slow squirt seafoam on all valve stems and worked them free. Turned over with starter all valves were looking good so put coil wire on and fired it up. Sounding good! Going to pull valve covers in the morn and slowly go through again to make sure no valves are sticking then its off for new tires.
Bill they are over nine inches long. therefore my statement is correct as to the propensity to easily bend during float or other abnormal occurrences in the valve-train. One really does not care just how long in this statement.

Did you know what Ford called for before I typed the specs?
Welcome back? Not. Unless someone contacts me by P/M or email, I'm no longer typing posts here on FTE.
I haven't been on vacation, I'm recovering from major surgery that occured 11/21. Because of new health issues, I'm off the site unless asked to get involved.

Sent you a PM on Thanksgiving, didn't know about the surgery, I'm sure you've been swamped with email.
Good luck with the health issues and I betcha can't stay "off the site".
Running pretty good so far just stumbles on take off, it has a 600 cfm holley on it that is probably plugged with bad gas, Im thinking to get a 600 cfm Edelbrock carb to go with the Edelbrock Performer manifold thats on it already.
Any thoughts on that?

If the old gas was causing your problem just wait...When it gets cold it will do it again.I have battled this problem so much on old cars(I work at a restoration shop)that I have found 2 things to work.Pull heads, hot tank, reassemble and clean or replace everything in the fuel system.OR if I can free the valves up long enough to get said engine to run.WYNNS tune up concentrate in the oil is a miracle worker.I dont know what is in that stuff but is the best additive I have ever seen.Tried everything else I could find, then a friends dad brings me this stuff and says to try this.MAN I was ready to pull the head off but got lucky. The engine in general just sounded so much quiter.I need to find out how to get more of that stuff now that I think about it.

Good on the lack of cold.A good cold morning did it every time at first.
I added 2 of the little bottles to a 300 six...I believe in the stuff for sure.
Unfortunately I like seafoam but it is just not as good in this instance.
WYNNS tune up is some good stuff! I've used their stuff in my old 67 ford once.....
After you get your valves freed up I would change the oil and add some Lucas Oil Stabilizer to your engine! And since most oils of today dont have hardly any zinc in them I would add some Lucas Oil Stabilizer to your engine to ad in this problem....
After I got them freed up i put trans fluid in the oil and idled it for about 15 minutes then changed the oil, except for running rich its running real good.

ATF isnt going to help you that much in the long run....I would really look into adding some HD Lucas Oil Stabilizer as its better suited for long term life of your engine.
