Saleen Explorers
Hey Guys/Gals, I found this board doing a search on Saleen Explorers. I'm looking to buy a '99 and was just wondering if anybody has any Production Info on them? It's has all the Saleen stuff on it, but has a V-6. Kinda weird, I thought they all came with V-8's?? Any info on this would be great!Thanks,

I do not ever remember seeing a Saleen with a V6, but that doesn't mean Steve didn't make one. Are you sure it is an XP8, or did someone just buy all the ground effects, decals, and rear wing?
There were not too many changes to the engine of a Seleen from stock besides the intake, and the ones with a supercharger. The largest difference was in the supspension mods - sway bars, lowering, shocks, etc. That and the cosmetic add-ons.
If you have found one for sell, it is a rare thing. Saleen does not sell any of the parts (or the vehicle for that matter) anymore. There are a lot of us that have tried, but they discontinued them a few years ago...

Yeah, they made them. Pretty rare.
It should say XP6 on the back.....

Oh yeah, get the year, and write down the unit # (on the front bumper on on the dash plaque) and call Saleen in Irvine, CA (area code 949) and they will tell you everything about the car from thier records.

hey there, they did make a V6 but not too many. I cant recall how many. It also sucks that they stopped making parts for the xp8. My dad and I were lucky enough to get the last 2 front facia. I have called them many times to ask if they are going to make some. One guy told me on the downlow though that they are still making them for the original Xp8's. He said if you find an owner just shell out some doe and he might get them for you but you didnt hear that from me.

I am in the process of talking to a guy in Cali that knows who fabbed the parts for Saleen, and is going to talk to them about trying to make a few more sets, but maybe changing on or two things just to alter it from Saleen. Hopefully it will happen, but I am not putting a whole lot out there until I know for sure they can...

I read this post the other day and got to talking to one one my clients...he's the ex vice president at Saleen. Told me to call Saleen and talk to Danny Ochoa or Bob Root. He said that they had the ground effects parts there in the warehouse just 6 months ago...whether they still do or not is the question. They do not have any more of their engine mods but you may be able to find some of the body kit parts. Call 949-597-4900. That's the direct line...the 1-800 number won't get you anywhere. Please don't call unless you are very serious and live in the So. Cal area because they probably won't ship. Good luck!!
