My dad bought me this truck for $500 a few months ago for my 17th birthday. We know very little about, all we know is it is a Ford F-100 Custom Cab. We think it has a 390ci, we know it has a 4-bolt main. Everything on it is stock, VERY little rust, no dents. very few small scratches. Only missing a piece of trim on the right side of the truck.
Bought from the original owner, but he has recently passed, so cant ask him. Can any of you help me out? https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/m...my+truck..html
I can email more pics if needed.
Thanks.
p.s. This is my first vehicle. I am proud to have this truck, is this good, or bad.
I think that stock engines that year were 360's. You can either call a ford dealer and give them the vin or post it here and we'll figure it out for you.

Where would i find the vin?
Sorry if i ask to many questions. Never done this stuff before.
The old man befor he passed. I dont know anything about wat one would do or look like, or wat it means.
No disrespect to him but he was wrong. you have a 2 main block.
Im sure if you post a pic of the warranty plate on the drivers side door jam, Number Dummy can give you a history about your truck....You can find him in the 61-66 forums as well.
Coda, I looked through your photos, and it appears that you likely have a run of the mill 2 bolt main FE 360. They all seem to be called 390s on sale day. 4 bolt main is more of a chevy term.
A 390 could have been swapped in over the years, not uncommon. The only way to tell is to measure the stroke.
To measure the stroke, grab a piece if white 14ga. house wire 6-8 in long, a Sharpie, socket to fit the nut on the crank pulley and a friend.
Pull the coil wire, one of the front sparkplugs. Poke the wire in the hole rest the Sharpie on the manifold touching the wire. Have your friend turn the engine over a couple revs and measure the length of the mark on the wire. That will tell you the stroke. Post your measurement back and we will tell you which you have.
The holes in the breather top give me heartburn too, if air coming in is not passing through the filter you can damage the engine with dirt going through the carb.
So wat im doing is pulling a spark plug out, and puting the wire into the wher the piston is? then measuring how far down it goes?
just asking to be sure.
and about the filter, i have one orderd. we bought it with out one.

Pull the plug, place the wire in the hole one finger on end of wire, keep the Sharpie steady and against the wire. 2 complete revs to make sure.
nice looking truck. seems the old guy took good care of it. not bad for $500. my neighbor has a 71 that looks just like it only with only 80K original miles.
that block looks too short to be a 360 or 390. Look at the long fan extension. I'm guessing 302 but only off of the pics.
anyway, hope you enjoy working your butt off and that you have a nice allowance. especially if you have a 360. you'll need lots of gas. not that working on a rig ain't fun, especially a young fella. I've spent double or triple the value of my old heap fixing my old heap. just remember to not get too excited to buy dumb crap for it like those stupid little foot shaped gas pedals and stuff. you'll never get your money back. spend your time and dough making the truck remain a truck and get it running right.
Definitely an FE block. The heads and intake meet under the valve covers. The waterpump is also the FE series. The bed is also the early model without the side marker indentation. The grille looks like a 69 model. The doors also have visible door locks, that rules out a 67 model.
Looks like you got a nice truck to start with. You will enjoy tinkering with the old truck. Parts are much cheaper than new cars and upgrades to the driveline are bolt on with parts up to a 1979 ford truck.(Power steering, disc brakes, tilt column, and power brake booster)
