If you want to take a economical approach you could buy a ZeroStart (Phillips & Temro) Part Number 3100040 which is a block heater kit that would give you the same element as OEM (P & T is Ford's supplier), but the cord would be a generic one that you would have to route and tie-up as you choose. Some place like NAPA should be able to get this to you for about $25.
Don't fool around with the KATS brand products they are junk read the reviews of them all over www.amazon.com they all fail or seem to leak within months. Go with a P & T also sold as ZeroStart or HotStart heaters.
Go the OEM route, easy to install and works great . Live in Michigan and its nice for starting up on cold mornings. No problems with leaks and is well worth it!
Well after all of the horrors stories I have heard that was very reassuring. I just wish I would have tackled this before it started snowing. Probably a project for next spring. Thanks!
same here illini, ill order it soon but im not draining the radiator fluid when its twenty degrees outside plus i just did it this summer! i gotta plan things out better
im gonna order oem when im ready soon. i just dont want to install it when its 15 degrees out right now and lose the new fluid i just flushed out this summer
-18F this morning, and I started to have a little trouble turning over.
I think the transmission oil was to blame... whoever decided a circulation pump and a cooler in a manual transmission were a good idea wasn't the brightest bulb on the string. All I got to hear this morning was pump cavitation as she warmed up.
I hear you. I have used mine this winter! I was up north of me where the temp was -38 and with Amsoil and my block heater it turned over like it was 80 out side. Only thing was my power steering pump was crying at me for a couple minutes. I am running synthetic in that too. All in all, Im very happy I installed one this fall.
Run to napa, pull it into the garage and be done with it in about 45min. My 2 cents! Oh but wait for it to get above freezing!
