Alignment issue...

Hi guys - need some help with my alignment (95 F250 PSD 4X4 SC). I had 235/85/16's on with no problems. Got wider rims and 285/75/16's, and now my truck pulls to the right. Tried switching all 4 tires around - no difference. Went to alignment shop and they told me everything was bang on - the guy even said that it was straighter than some new trucks he's seen (they specialize in trucks), so they have no solutions. Anyone have experience with this??
Thanks. Michael.
BTW - installed Rancho RS5000 steering stabilizer with no difference...

Do the new wheels have the same offset as the original wheels?

How much wider did you go?

Does the pull remain the same with the brakes applied?

You have over 25 posts now. I believe you can add a signature now (user CP in blue bar upper left). This way you won't have to explain "95 F250 PSD 4X4 SC" + miles and mods, everytime you post.

Not sure about the offset....would that make a difference in the alignment?? The new wheels are 8" (old I'm guessing were 7"??)

Hi Rick - no, there is no noticable change while braking (in case it matters, I recently (close to the same time as I got the new wheels)replaced both front rotors and put new pads - rear drums were turned with new shoes)...

Hey Copedawg - thanks for that. I've been wanting to do that, but I can't seem to find where it says 'edit signature' (??).
BTW I agree - my nephew just came back from Afghanastan (who cares if I can't spell it!!)

Once you have opened the user CP on the left hand side you should see settings and options then under that you should see edit signature button
I am glad your nephew has finished his tour

If they are absolutely sure the alignment is right and you are sure that your front spring bushings, shackle bushings and pivot bushings are right, AND that your back axle has not shifted then it's probably your wheel bearings. Or something related to it. Maybe whoever did the brakes didn't grease the sliders. The way the wheels are set on these trucks it doesn't take much to make them pull.
Just don't ever let anyone put adjustable caster bushings in it. If it has them then that is your problem. Someone else didn't fix a problem. They just fixed the symptoms.

If your truck pulls and everything else is tight, then your camber is off.

Some alignment places do not have the expertise to do the alignment on these trucks. I would get another opinion from a better shop one who does heavy duty Ford trucks. These vehicles use pinch bushings & most places have no experience with this type.

I have adjustable pinch bushings & they do work, but my truck is 2WD & the strain of the 4WD is a bit much for these adjustable bushings.

Those pinch bushings are not a proper fix. The guy that used them didn't know what he was doing. There is a reason that they were needed and he should have fixed that!
And caster and toe can cause a pull too. So can worn out bushings deflecting under a load.

So it sounds like you don't think that it has anything to do with the bigger tires, correct??

The SIGNATURE link should be under the AVATAR link. Don't know when you hit 25th post; when I did (~ a month ago) it took two more days before the "link appeared". If you hit 25 yesterday, be patient, the link will arrive soon.

If the offset on the wheel changes, the steering geometry changes and what constitutes "the alignment specs" may change. Also, the load on the bearings change and the camber may need to be adjusted to compensate. Camber being off won't induce a pull but will accelerate tire wear. Loose components will cause all kinds of issues.

I'd reread RRranch's post and make a check list adding the steering linkage components, too - new (different) wheels and tires may adjust their load points, too.

It can but I doubt it. That drag link can cause it. It's making mine pull right now. I need to replace it but who has any money?

With the tires they can move the load on the wheel bearings. An inch shouldn't do much but if something else is wrong it can exaggerate the problem being off factory specs.
