rough idle in drive

rough idle in drive

hi i have a 1995 f 150 flareside 5.8 v8 it idles good in park and does not hesitate when accelatring ,however it will stall in drive and reverse and at red lights seems like at low rpms any ideas? thanks to all

Sounds like your transmission isn't releasing from drive when you stop. common auto problem. that's why i go manual!!!

as soon as i put it in gear it will stall, if i give it a little gas it smooths right out

A very common cause of this problem is a dirty/clogged IAC (Idle Air Control). Ryan has more info here: Ford Fuel Injection » Idle Air Bypass (IAB)

i am going to clean the iac this weekend is there a gasket i need also ?

Never had one apart, but I think there is a gasket.

yes there is a gasket

you can also check the resistance with your multi meter the resistance should be between 7 and 13 ohm's. i just replaced mine only had 5.3 ohm's of resistance.
