I have to admit. I am only here to get advice on a Christmas present for my husband. Being said.
What is the best quality Backup camera, license plate style for his 2002 F250 Super Duty? It will be used with a Kenwood monitor DDX 6019. HELP!
I got a liscence plate style backup camera off ebay for $13 and the picture looks great. Night or day it looks perfect. It even has night vision! Also have a kenwood monitor (DNX 5120).
is the license plate the BEST location for seeing items higher than that level vs in tailgate handle? I want to get one because I suck at backing up. I have dinged my rear bumper a number of times and wrecked my tailgate too
I like the level. The other great thing is is that it swivels. So you can point it up, or even point it down right on the hitch ball making for super easy trailer hook ups!
With the monitor such as the kenwood, it would be a waste to spend thousands on a high quality backup camera. The monitor has a resolution of 480x234. The lowest quality possible camera is at least VGA (640x480). The $13 one I bought was 1.3MP (1280x1024 clipped). All that matters is if the color looks good and reliability. I have had mine for over 2 years now without any issue. The color is great and I couldn't ask for a better backup camera. Maybe if I had a higher resolution monitor then I would be more worried. But really I don't care because who needs high def backup images?
The Kenwood DDX 6019 monitor resolution is only 480 x 234 so going gung ho with a megapixel camera or some other super high resolution model would be a waste of money. The picture will only be as good as the monitor can show. That said, there are a ton of license plate frame cams that will all do the trick nicely. Look for one that has good night vision and is guaranteed weatherproof. One problem with that mount location at night is the license plate lights tend to cause a bad glare on any cameras nearby. If you're looking for one to help with hooking up a pull trailer, the best location is below the bumper, between the 7-way plug and the hitch receiver.

Thx. You did read my post completely. Now to find someone that has those qualities in a camera. I appreciate your reply.
When I bought my truck 8 years ago the first thing I did was install the best back up camera on the market. It has cost me tens of thousands of dollars to maintain, but it is the most reliable system on the market. I got the WIFE 1.0 and have never looked back. This system works in the rain, snow, heat, cold.......it even works at Chinese restaurants with those little bitty parking spots. All I do is shift into reverse, tap the brakes a few times, pull forward and say a few choice words and WIFE 1.0 kicks into action. Since installing WIFE 1.0 I haven't incurred so much as a scratch on my bumper even with a trailer attached.
If I had to do it all over again, I would ditch WIFE 1.0 and go with the newer WIFE 2.0 It costs a ton more, but my buddies that have it say that the software is half as old and detects objects twice as fast.
Hope this helps.
