new truck

Thanks to several of you guys for the advice. I did buy the truck I was considering... and figured it was worth a thread in the 6.9/7.3 subforum

I have kept my 4x4 diesel Chevy and will keep both trucks until spring. The Ford is 2WD... if I can live through winter with it, then great. So far no problems.

It's a 1994 F-250 XLT with the 7.3 IDI turbo (200,000 miles).

My mods so far:

brand new oil and filter
new stuff in the cooling system: distilled water + low silicate antifreeze + SCAs
"rust-busting" protective oil on the only rusty spot for now, waiting until I can fix it properly

(that rust spot is visible in the last pic... it's at the bottom of the back part of the cab, driver's side)

and that's about it...

A few pics:

A big fat zero, but I asked you guys before buying and the prevailing opinion was that if it ran fine at the moment and I started treating it immediately after getting it, I should be fine.

So I followed forum advice and got it

I said in that other thread it was the same color as yours, but now I'm not so sure (seems to me your color appears to be less pink and more orange in your pics). Was there another two-tone color combo that had grey paired with something close to cranberry but not exactly it?

^ That is a nice truck

(I noticed you have the "non-turbo" bumper... that's another slight difference in looks.)

Thanks.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that the diesel bumpers started showing up in 93'. I considered switching to a diesel bumper but I have no reason to-it just looks nicer, that all.

i think all the 95+ trucks had those cutouts, supposed to increase airflow to the cooling system or something.

Congrats on the new truck, throw 1k of weight in the back and she'll go anywhere for the most part.....at least that was the case with my 2wd. Course i didnt try to go muddin or nothin lol, but i never got stuck anywhere either.

There's what appears to be an intercooler (haven't followed the hoses, but sure looks like it) placed right on the inner side of those bumper airflow holes, so they do serve a purpose.

FWIW, Chevies and GMCs of those years have a "gas bumper" and a "diesel bumper". The diesel bumper has two airflow holes in it. The gas bumper doesn't.

It's the best (and almost only) way to instantly tell whether a GMT400 pickup is gas- or diesel-powered when looking at it from the outside...

I'd tend to assume it's the same thing with those Fords...
