I need some help... I have a 1997 f-150 with 288,226 miles... yep, I love my truck.. trouble is #6 plug electrode exploded... the electrode is just flat out gone.. Then the truck cries, makes a sad whistle sound and gas mileage goes down drastically. The check engine light comes on, which I already know what it is from the sound. Take out the plug and the central electrode is gone, change the plug, good to go for awhile. But I want to fix the problem. Question is… Why is this happening?
Exploded and missing are two different discriptions.
Explain what you see when the plug tip is missing, like how much, is the porcelan broken around where the tip would be etc.
What has happened to the ground strap, etc.
Severe detonation can break the tip parts. Normal errosion can burn away the tip etc.
How long does a replacment plug last?
