Got 'Flashed' Today

Finally got the 400/800 flash done today. Got it done along with the free 7500 mile service. I haven't really noticed the extra 15 HP but what I have noticed is there is definitely a much smoother acceleration from take off and a more consistant and smoother shift pattern for the transmission. So far so good!

It's good to hear it was "flashed" and not "trashed". Some have reported bad experiences with their dealer doing the flash.

I was a little concerned. Almost as nervous as I was when my son was born. Big relief when I saw my truck being parked in the completed parking lot.

Maybe I missed it but is there a way to know what flash version you have in your vehicle?

These trucks still have some bad turbo lag. I have never seen anything like it. The pause at start when pressing the accelerator is horrible.

I have 17600 miles on mine now. i do not believe I have seen turbo lag issues. The fly by wire programming does have some built in delay when stomping the throttle at idle. I never do that so I have no issue with it. I have found that simply easing into the throttle before rolling to full produces fantastic acceleration, complete with squealing tires. Make sure you are pointed straight though, it will go sideways in a hurry.

I don't care what they call it or what they want to define it as. It's turbo lag. My 07 Cummins 5.9, no lag. My Wife's Volvo XC is a hoss. Best turbo setup I have felt (including twins on the 5.9 Cummins). I'm disappointed with the feel. It's horrible. I let my wife drive it for the first time the other day and she said the same thing. It sucks that I have to "get use to it" but it is what it is until someone improves it or the 60th ECM update is released. Ford should have put twins on for sure. You can work a turbo all you want to try to get it right but twins are so easily paired and simply amazing. Ask the Chevy/GMC guys with the new Duramax with the newer twin turbo engine. I'm a little disappointed for sure. I hate the feeling at start.

It's torque management built into the Fly-by-wire program. My G8 was terrible till we turned it off with a tune.

no, it's still not turbo lag. no matter what you want to call it

it is lag, yes. the engine has a turbo, yes. but the lag has ZERO to do with the turbo. It is an intentional torque limiting mechanism that accomplishes a few things. it keeps pedal-slamming idiots from going sideways and killing the people next to them. It also limits the amount of particulate produced and therefore intercepted by the DPF.

This has been explained a few times... but the lesson from all of it is just to either learn to drive the truck such that you limit this lag, or get used to it. OR you can probably get rid of it with a tune, should you decide to go that route. The new tuners are just making it out into the wild... it might be awhile before someone figures out how to remove this particular safety feature.

by the way, I almost never notice any lag anymore. I adjusted my pedal foot to roll on the throttle instead of just punching it. I used to have to do that with my older carb'd gassers. Mash the pedal from 0 to 100% and it would flood a little bit and bog down. roll on the throttle and it would get up and go. This truck behaves the same way, albeit for different reasons.

"Safety feature" I'm rolling the eyes on this one. I have read the other threads on this and if this is intentional, it's a horrible feature. This should be able to be turned on or off. I have driven this truck with it since the start of October and it's horrible and irritating, just like the sloppy play of the steering wheel.

Looks like the only thing that's gonna make you happy is to get rid of the Ford and go back to the Dodge that was obviously the best truck you ever owned. Why exactly did you get rid of it to buy such a turd? LOL

I never said the Dodge was the best truck I ever owned nor did I say this F250 is a turd. The Cummins 5.9 was a phenomenal engine period. I don't even need to touch that topic. The Dodge drive train sucked, the comfort level could have been better etc. I'm not touching that issue either as it is known. I did not have any "lag" though in the Cummins nor did I have any steering wheel play that feels like my 4 year old assembled it. The F250 has been a good truck minus a few small details that could be corrected to make it an amazing truck. These last few days with the 0 degree starts (while not being plugged in) are amazing enough.Ford has spent some time developing this engine. Just a little fit and finish details and this daggone "lag" deal.
