I am looking at getting new wheels for my 89 F350 SRW and I'm not sure about wheel backspacing. I'm looking at the Pro Comp series 52 black powder wheels. They have two different backspacing for these wheels, a 4.25 and a 2.5. Any ideas as to which wheel backspace would be best? IIRC the tires I will be using are 285 75 16
Here is a link to the wheels I'm looking at (if the link works)
The stock wheels all have neutral offset meaning the backspacing is exactly half the rim width.. which is 4" on an 8" wheel for example. If the stock wheels on your truck are somewhat in under the fenders I'd be tempted to go for the 2.5" backspacing to get more of a deep dish wheel look and bring the outer edge of the wheel/tire combo flush or even a little proud of the fender.
As stated that's a personal preference. You looking to daily drive this truck, or mud it? Personally, I like the 4.25" backspace on my daily drivers, as you sling a lot less road grime & water spray when driving in the rain.
In my experience, when you throw some 2.5" wheels on there, you'll find that every water puddle & dirt road you travel will coat the entire truck like you've spent all day bashing mud holes.
Well I called Pro Comp to get some info. He said the stock wheels have a 5 point something backspace, which is what is on the truck now. The 4.25 backspacing would push the wheel/tire out about 1.25" and the 2.5 wheel would push the wheel/tire out more then 3" over stock.
The stock wheel/tire sit just inside of the wheel well lip, so the 4.25 backspacing would push it out to the outer edge of the fender. I think this would look fine. I've seen many trucks running around here with the wheel sticking out way past the fender, and I think it looks stupid. I just need to make sure I have the room for the tires before I do anything else.

Neither, lol. It will be my work truck. I will be using it when I need to haul or tow something, like firewood, manure, or tow a trailer of something. Strictly a work truck. The tires on it are shot and I have a set of tires that only have a few thousand miles on them, but they will not fit the stock rims. It's cheaper to get new wheels for my tires then to get new tires for the stock wheels. Plus I don't like the skinny tires that are on it now.
