My radiator on my 94 F150 (plastic) is leaking were the tanks meet the core on the seams. Anyone have experience with getting these repaired or are they pretty much a throw away and replace ??
I think I remember the Haynes manual having instructions on how to replace the o-ring in the end caps, but I'm not sure. Check in there first before you throw it away and get a new one.
Several guys on this site and others have successfully had the tanks resealed by radiator shops. I would guess, if you had the right glues, tools and cleaners you could do it too.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-16-03 AT 08:05 PM (EST)]I myself have the same problem, I just run down and get some radiator stop leak, and pour a little bit into the radiator, and I mean a little bit! It seems to do the trick with no failures or setbacks. But I'm in the process of making the truck into a prerunner. So lightening up the front is a must. So would it be feasable enough to get an alluminum radiator? Much better also. BE Cool has a ford replacement radiator from 350 to 400 bucks.
The repair didn't look too difficult. You have to pry the tabs up that are folded over holding the plastic end on, replace the rubber o-ring, put the plastic tank back on and tap the tabs down again. The full thing should be in the manual.
