i have a 1997 f350 crew cab dually 2wd 7.3 powerstroke and i had a pull off with a 1978 f250 4wd and he drug me in 4wd can anyone give me some hints on gettin some traction so i can drag him? ive got a 2200 pound flatbed on the back already
How about just give me the money you will waste when your rear end or transmission comes apart and then just stop trying. Tell the guy with the 4x4 the same. I need some money right now. Last time I saw someone try that, one blew a transfer case. That was an old K5 blazer and the Ford blew a driveshaft right through his bed. It was really cool how his kid was sitting in the bed and had a close up view of it flying into his face.
You will not easily beat a SRW truck, even if he is in 2wd. Your drive wheel contact patch PSI is way too low compared to a SRW.
On second thought, just send your money to RRranch as suggested above. It makes more sense than doing a tug of war.
I second that! Thats the point behind a dually, more load dispersal on the road with the weight.
Now.. You could play dirty, lock in some tire chains.. when one busts, most likely it will go through your competitors back window, dislodging his nugget, thus letting you win by default! LOL!
I am going to guess the hitch point on the 78 was higher than where you were hooked.
If that is so, he was stealing some of your traction weight with the chain/strap angle.
Was his truck open differentials or traction lock/Lockers in one or both of his axles?
With at least one of his pulling wheels being under the engine, more weight on one of the traction tires, advantage 4x4.
Low range in the 4x4 transfer case, advantage 4x4.
2200 pound flatbed minus the weight of the stock bed = little gain in traction weight.
Most of your extra weight is the diesel and crew cab which are more on the non powered wheels, advantage 4x4.
Watching something like this is usually funny, until parts fly.
Two years ago a fellow trying to pull a stuck mud truck out was killed up at Power Line Park in Ohio.
When he started pulling on the stuck truck the attachment point on the stuck truck broke off and it and the clevis attaching the strap to the truck went through the back window, the drivers head then on through the windshield.
When you do something like this, a broken axle/driveshaft/transfer case/transmission/clutch are the cheap parts that may be broken.

stand on your brakes until his tires spin, then you know he lost traction...FLOOR IT !!!
dont worry about the rear ends in these, there very stout. if you do 5 or 6 pulls with in an hour andyou had alot of wheel spin then your friction plates will eat it LOL rich destroyed his something good but it was a great night. get a couple bags of cement and put them at the rear of the bed, might get you some more traction. but they are right with the dually. not so much traction, more of a load issue.
so none of you guys think ill beat him in 4 low? me and my brother are gettin ready to install a set of traction bars and 4 goodyear wrangler MT/R's on it and hopefully ill be able to get him. he is just a really arrogant guy that i want to beat because he thinks that junk truck is so bad!
