I have a 2006 Ford Super Duty F-250, Diesel 6.8 with 4WD, My check gauges light comes on and I noticed no oil pressure on the gauge, I immediately pulled over, checked the oil which was fine. I did find that so long as I kept the RPM's up above about 800 the oil gauge showed good oil pressure as soon as I let it idle again the gauge showed no oil pressure again. It was cold this morning (about 30F) Can you please advise me what may be wrong?
If you truly had no oil pressure then your truck would not run. I would check the wiring and or sending unit. The dash gauge is nothing but an idiot light with a needle. It only takes 7.5 psi to put it in the "normal" range.
I'm probably why they make those gauges, thanks, I had justed dropped off my husband for a hunt this morning at 5am when this happened on the way back. I was scared to drive it but put it in "Tow/Haul" that kept the idle up. Do you think the cold weather might have caused this too?
Cold weather can cause wiring issues. Like I say......if the engine truly had no oil pressure it's IMPOSSIBLE for it to run. I'm thinking it's more than likely a bad sending unit, but it's definitely worth having it checked out.
Thank you so much for your advise, I'll take it to the shop. With any luck it'll be what you suggested and hopefully fixed before I pick him up, I hope he's got some fresh venison to put in the back of this truck. :-) Go Ford and especially npccpartsman.
LOL you sure respond differently from my wife, first she would not deliver me to the hunting ground at 5am and if the oil pressure dropped she would not notice it at all and if she did she would just drive it as long as it ran..
