i'm just wondering how to get the most out of speed density. i've got a 1992 f150 4x4 with a 5.0 and a 5 speed. if its possible to tune the sd for the fun stuff i'd really prefer it instead of going maf.
I don't know , all i can say is my son has a 2.3 turbo ranger thats SD , it has a very agressive crower custom grid cam in it that dosn't have much vacuum , but it has an accel thruster engine management system with a different map sensor , and we were able to tune it , so i know its possable , but may be cheaper to go to MA ??...Lew
thats my problem i hear constantly that you can tune sd but where can i find a tuner. can i adjust it for a more aggressive cam, gt 40 heads, bigger injectors, etc. i'm used to the edelbrock carb i had on my nova. i never had to deal with efi got my white beast (the truck) and got kicked in the face with how limited it is unless you pay out the woo-hoo for maf. i have time to get needing to hop up the ecu, i plan on headers, no cats, no smog pump, lower gears, ladder bars, and a leveling kit first but i'm not putting in all that to be stuck there and would rather sell it before i de-smog it and buy something easier to play with.
Check around at some of the mustang race shops , if you have any in the area , thats where you will find a tuner , i had a custom chip burned for mine but its MA , not sure that it will work with SD ??....The problem with SD and agressive cams is the engine needs vacuum to run right....and the more cam you put in it the less vacuum....
good to know thanks a lot i was ready to rip out the efi and put on a carb you may have just saved mine and my trucks relationship lol.
also how to you like your flowtechs conanski? i got a 3 inch tailpipe and glasspack when my muffler fell off and would like to finish the job, just not sure of what headers to get.
Try looking up Moates quarter horse and Tweeczer (I'm not sure about the spelling, but your browser's search engine should get you to the sites)
Both of these have a burner and chip and programs to bring out the most in your beast------but first do what Conanski suggested.
Hope this helps, TJ
I agree with the Moates and Tweeczer. I'm running an SCT chip on my Turbo 4.9. The fact that you have a 5.0 will make it easier. Go to any of there websites and they usually have a list of tuners. Thats how I found a local shop that was willing to help me figure out how to tune my 4.9. Granted it took 5 of his tunning buddies and a Ford engineer. But we managed to tune it to run the turbo. Hope this helps.
I guess the moates And tweeczer are about the same as the accel thruster ?? on the accel system it runs off an accel computer , map sensor , and icv , then you just plug it into your lap top & can change anythink you wan't , if you know how to do it , we screw around with a few things but leave the basic engine tune to the tuner....Lew
