I think my EGR cooler may be shot. Puking anti freeze every few days. SHould I replace it or just delete it? If I delete it do i just leave the cooler in place? I have also read if I delete the EGR cooler i should also replace the oil cooler. Any advice? Best Delete kit?
Neal technologies makes a bulletproof EGR cooler, but 9 times out of 10 (and depending on enviornmental laws in your area) people delete it and never have to worry about it again.
jbru, the most likely cause of the EGR cooler failure is a plugged up
OIL cooler which reduces/restricts coolant flow to the EGR cooler
which because of the high exhaust gas temps fails from the heat.
So, "just" replacing/deleting the EGR cooler doesn't address the likely
situation that your oil cooler is also in need of replacement.
Among the most important sensors to monitor on the 6.0 are the
Engine coolant and engine oil temps. several odbII plug-in gauges
are available (I use the scangauge2).
head over to the 6.0 power stroke forum there is all kinds of
additional info you should read.
I have the same problem. (I am in So. Cal.) I have to change it with the bulletproof from Neal Tech and changing the head bolts among other things. the price tag is 5k. This does not mean yours need all this but I did it to fix all the things that go wrong with the 6.0 motors. Hopefully you can just delete it.
