Hi maybe someone could help me out here. I recently bought an 84 f-150 with the inline 6 in it. To make a long story short it needs a new engine. I want to stay with the inlines because ive heard a lot of great things about them. I bought another f-150 but its newer and has the EFI. I was originally just going to swap the engine but ive decided to stick with the carb. I know that converting wouldn't be too hard but I think that buying anew engine would be easier than pulling the engine and converting it. Ive found this website that sells remanufactured engines but they have several different types of carbeurated engines and I'm not sure which one I should get. The engine ive got now is a mess with vacuum lines missing and crimped and oil spitting out of the breather. Im new to fords and dont really have any previous experience with them so I'm not sure which engine is right for me. Any insight or advice will be greatly appreciated. Here is the list of engines :
Liters____CC or CID____cyl____VIN____year_____description
4.9 300 6 B,K,E 65-84 front sump pan, dipstick in pan or in front of filter mounting in block. No A.I.R pump.
4.9 300 6 B,K,E 65-84 6-hole A.I.R pump in head above exhaust ports, dipstick in block in front of oil filter pan
4.9 300 6 75-84 no A.I.R. pump, Front Sump Pan
4.9 300 6 E,Y 81-84 No A.I.R. pump dipstick in block behind oil filter mounting
4.9 300 6 E,Y 81-84 6 hole A.I.R. pump in head above exhaust ports, dipstick in block behind oil filter
4.9 300 6 Y 85-86 carbureted, 6 hole A.I.R. pump in head bolt on rockers
4.9 300 6 Y 85-86 carbureted, no A.I.R. pump, bolt on rockers
I know that most of this is just personal preference but like I said I'm new to this and don't really know what I'm looking for. ( also the website is called remanufactured.com) thanks for the input
i would go with a 300 six from a late 70's...no EGR valves, vacum lines or any polution parts to give you problems.....but i would seriously look into having yours rebiult...and like ladell33 says...ad some performance parts to it and crank some horsepower out of it...the 300 six's are bullet proof
my brothers 78 has a stock singlebarrel carb and there is no egr valve in site, i have seen a few other trucks of this vintage without them as well...and no air pumps either....my 81 has the egr valve and a ton of vacuum lines

that's because you can remove it... the egr is on a spacer under the carb that doesn't have to be there if you know how to plug it up...
Just because it don't have one now doesn't mean it didn't come with it. I only have three vacuum lines on my 1980.
Hey 6fifty, Where do your vacuum lines go? Specifically, does yours have a vacuum line coming from the distributor, if so where on the engine does it go?
i see, well all i know is that it dont have one and on my 81 i removed the egr valve and plugged the spacer...also plugging about 4 vacum lines on the spacer plate....anyways the best 300 to work on are the ones without all the polution crap...regardless of what the year is
