I have a 00 Bucket Truck F450 with a 7.3 PSD.
When I leave it idling the rpm is arround 750/800 and sometines it jump to 1000 or 1100 all in once without touch nothing! and after a little bit, it come back to normal.
Do somebody knows what's going on ????
Does it do it in the warm and cold weather? If it does it in only cold weather I think it would have to do with keeping the temperature up. And if it does sound like a jet engine it is your ebpv closing the exaust again to try and keep the truck up to temp.
Both sound like the Exhaust Back Pressure Valve kicking in on a cold morning. Does it stop when you touch the brake pedal?
If that's the case, it will do that until the motor oil hits a certain temperature, something like 120 or 140 degrees, I don't remember for sure. The EBPV will also kick in while driving, while you are easy on the gas pedal. It is suppose to open up when you step on the gas pedal like when you are accelerating or going up a hill. Once it's warmed up, it should open up and you should not hear it again unless it cools back down.

well, it all start few days ago while I'm working in Indianapolis and temp drop to a single digit so, it sounds right!
Nice truck BtW !
With it being a bucket truck, some of those have switch to raise the throttle when it senses a need for more flow/psi.
Who makes the bucket and what model is it??
I know what u talking about, but I been with this truck for 4 years and it just start few days ago, and it happens even when the hydraulic is not in use!
The lift is a AT200, by ALTEC.
If this was the first time you had it in a cold climate, it could be the EBPV working. Vinfords truck sounds just like the EBPV working. They do sound like a jet engine.
