I've got a 1997 F350 Powerstroke Crew cab with the stock 235x85xR16's class E tires on it with 4.10 gears and an auto. Oh its a single rear wheel setup as well. Edit: I don't have airbags on the 350 but it rides way better than the 250 with the following setup:
I'm carrying a 3500 lb 9.5ft truck camper and using a superhitch to tow a 16ft flatbed with about 5000 lbs including the Wrangler and trailer for wheeling.
I don't tow all the tire and am wondering what brands and sizes you all recommend? I've done some searching but can't find any stories running tires with my type of setup.
I really like the BFG's and Bridgestone Duellers so far....Looking at 235x85's or 265x75s. I'd like 285's but don't know how much they'd effect my truck's towing or economy when empty.
235/85 and 265/75 are about the same height, just the 265 is wider. 285/75's are a couple inches taller, about 33. I run 265/75's on my setup, load range E.
Michelin LTX M/S stock size. Why would you need to go bigger? Also a bit confused about the F350 F250 thing and air bags. Doesn't make any sense since the airbags are for stability. Two or four wheel drive? Your also right on the edge for gross weight IIRC. If it was a dually I wouldn't be concerned.
I was just commenting that my 250 needed airbags but my 350 doesn't with the camper and trailer. I edited it to make it a little clearer. LOL I think I may stay at the stock size because I'm noticing my narrow tires dig through the snow out here in WA nicely.
I just put in a new signature for the new truck. My signature was deleted when I sold the F250 for a 350. I want a tire to handle all the weight I'm throwing at it and that lasts. I had the BFG AT's on my last truck and they wore like iron.
Get the 265's. They have a higher load capacity than 235's and will not effect your mileage hardly at all compared to anything bigger. I learned that with the stock 235's my camper when loaded and full of water was too close to the tires weight limit on the back. It's not any more. I have 265 michelins now.
This pic is from last year. Now with my camper its still a bit high in the back and not even on the overloads yet. Mine is 3500 pounds. When I put the horse trailer on too then it just sits level. I put my F250 springs on it believe it or not and it lifted it nearly 6 inches in the back and about 3-4 in the front. All I did was one more leaf on the rear ones to make them 5 leaf like the f350 is supposed to be and I had just had the springs rearched to factory specs with new bushings installed. It doesn't need airbags at all no matter how much I put in it now.
I always go to tirerack.com then take that price to discount tire here. They BEAT that price and give me lifetime rotation and ballance. I paid 800 exactly for these 4 265 michelins doing that. Tire racks price was 890 before shipping. Discount tires initial price was nearly 1200 before I told them tire racks price.
