I have a 1979 Ranger F-250 4x4. I have been looking for a fan shroud with no success. So I decided instead to just put in a bigger spacer behind the fan to atleast temporarily fix my cooling problems in town. I bought a spacer and took off my fan and the existing spacer. Then had to drive to the hardware store to get the correct bolts for it. Now, the new bolts dont thread in and the old ones wont either! What the ?? Did something fall off this thing or what? I would think the pulley itself would have to have threads, otherwise what would keep the fan from flying off of there? I am a little confused as to what happened. Maybe driving without the fan on there was a horrible mistake!! I just figured it would be fine as long as I didnt get stuck in traffic. I attached an image...is there something major that I am missing here??
Cancel that...I'm an idiot...LOL!! Sure hope I didnt screw something up...I think I just drove it without a water pump...oops.
Yep...got it fixed. I feel a little on the stupid side, but oh well. I just hope I didnt damage anything by basically driving with no water pump...luckily I didnt drive it very far. Thanks for you reply though.
Why not go electric fan? Cool a lot better and don't take hp to use. The factory fan off a 3.8l taurus flows something like 4000+ cfm, normially you can find them on flebay for 50-60 and at a pick and pull for 20ish. That's what id do, and get a cheap fan thermostat and wire it up to a ignition hot switch and be done.
