odd temporary stalling

We have a 1999 F550 with a V10 for a rescue truck, it has about 8000 miles. The other day when starting the truck to respond to an accident the motor sputtered and hesitated then died. After a starting it back up it did not do it again. This is the 2nd time its done that, that I know of. The check engine light has never come on. Does anybody have any clue as to what might cause this?

Sounds like the IAC (Idle Air Control) to me, there are lots of threads on here about it, It can be cleaned or replaced, this sounds like the early symptoms of the IAC just starting to stick the odd time. I cleaned mine the first time I had the same symptoms, that was about 4 years ago, and have not had a problem with it since. Check out some of these threads:

Ditto on the IAC. Or vacuum leak from that dreaded PCV elbow on the throttle body.

check for service bullitins . i know for sure the 05 had one for stalling that turned out to be a problem with the TPS on the TB. they changed the TPS and did a reflash,no more stalling
