1995 Explorer Tach
I love the truck, but driving it home after purchasing it all was fine - I parked it in my drive for about an hour, and then drove it to the store and the tach was acting strangely - where just an hour before it was reading about 1800 rpm at 55 mph, it now was reading 1500 rpm... it would occasionaly 'tick' up or down. At one point it actually read 0 as I pulled up to a stop light.
Through all this, the engine seemed to be running just fine, there doesn't seem to be any transmission hesitation, and the way the pointer bounces or 'ticks' leads me to think it might be a problem electrically with it
Any thoughts or suggestions? (I hope so, 'cause my wife won't like it if she finds out somethigns broke right away)
Thanks

I would hazard a guess that the tach itself is the problem. I've seen a few of them die for no good reason and need to be replaced. First off though you might want to check all the connections at the back of the instrument cluster but if you're going to the work of doing that I think I'd have a new tach there and ready to install.

Since it is part of the Speedo/guage cluster, I suppose I will need a complete assy for the possibility I need to replace the Tach. Or is there simply a Tach "module" on the back of the cluster?
I went from a Pont. Fiero to the Explorer, and the Fiero has a list similar to this (not as many participants) where I got lots of help and info - so I knew there had to be somehing like it for this vehicle... and sure enough, here it is!
I've already ordered something from one of the advertizers
... my wife will love our check book.Again, Thanks.
