on my 92 model f-150 5.8, automatic, my front radiator support(thats what someone told me it was) is rusted through. its acutally where the cab mounts in the front though. does this make sense? if so does anyone know where i can get replacements other than the dealership?
Yes it makes sense, the rad core support rots out around the mounts on these trucks all the time. The support can be gotten on the after market. I replaced one on my 95 F150, got it from Auto Krafters in VA. They are not too far from me so I drove out and got it as well as some other stuff from them. Very nice place to deal with, from my experience.
Replacing the support can be a real pain in the butt. My truck was in a small fender bender so I had the body shop fix it while they were doing the rest of the body work. I think he said it calls for 10 hrs to replace, if I remember right. If you are doing it yourself, have fun. I think most of the front of the truck needs removed in order to get it out.
It's not an expensive part - about $100 in the aftermarket for a non-ford, import replacement.
The guy above me is correct in that replacing it takes a fair amount of time, because everything attaches to it. Fenders, lights, light supports, horns, and so on.
It took me all day though I had near-constant interruptions.
