Retiring my Ford?

I've given it my best shot and the 1991 F-150 is just not up to the wear and tear of my two part-time jobs and full-time college enrollment and hour commute, on Jersey roads, plus a fair amount of use hauling firewood and off-road driving. Driving an unreliable vehicle lets you know who your real friends are. Anyway, I can get cars at a ridiculous discount from the boneyard where I work and have just purchased a 1996 Altima, which I understand is almost as reliable as tax increases, but certainly won't be as useful as the Ford. I'm thinking I'm gonna keep the truck and use it for towing or when I have a hot date, but I need more reasons than that to justify paying $1600 a year in insurance for it (I'm a 20 year old male in the world's most densely populated place). Any thoughts from my fellow FTE folks? I just can't bear the thought of not being a Ford owner anymore.

Call your agent, they usually offer a discount for multipe vehicles.

Also, if you're going to leave it idle for long periods, you might talk to him about storage insurance. Costs very little, and with my company, it keeps the multi car discount active. I just have to call when I want to take it out of storage ( they probably would object if you did that too frequently).

That's if the truck is basically sound. If it's not well...adios

Just my .02

Good point about the insurance. I'd definitely hang on tot he truck and use it less frequently.

You also know who your friends are when they ask you to haul something then don't speak to you otherwise.

A friend will help you move a couch. A real friend will help you move a body!
A limited use/ mileage policy may be an option for you.

True. I can say the same about people who always want to borrow my tools, so I keep them hidden. My point was that you can definitely count on one hand the people who will stand by the side of the road in the pouring rain until you get going again. I actually have a female friend who did this recently, and she even knew more about trucks than I did, lol. Maybe I should keep the old beater around.

I am well informed of this true friend finder.... thankfully I have a few.

I have Gecko insurance and it allows me to have Pleasure use level for some of my vehicles. On my '02 Jeep its around $20 a month. I'm only a little older than you, but it is worth checking in to.
