Have any guys here installed an electric fuel system and had problems with it?
I installed one following threads on Powerstroke Nation using a Airdog II and Fuellab regulator. Once I got finished it cranked and ran fine for about 5 minutes, so I shut it off and went inside to clean up for a test drive. When I came out it cranked and ran with a rough idle but smoothed out as it warmed a little. I drove it a couple of miles to warm it up good and when I came back I left it running to set the final pressure. It shut off as I adjusted for 60 psi at the regulator gauge port and I haven't been able to get it to start since. I checked and it is sending fuel through the regulator and to the return line. All seems normal.
The Tom S write up or the guy from Lakeside Ca? The Airdog II is a low pressure system IIRC. May be wrong. So you would need an additional high pressure pump. Got pics of the install?
The Airdog and return lines are plumbed in on the engine side of the selector. I used the original lines with a conversion to attach to the banjo fitting. The pressure regulator is tied to the original lines at the front of the heads and returns through the original steel line.
That sounds reasonable to me. How did you wire to the IPR and is the tin nut tight?
I used the original fuel bowl harness minus the fuel heater and water sensor connections. One connector appears to go into the back of the HPOP and that is plugged in. The fuel pressure sensor, which is attached to the fuel bowl is not plugged up.
Thanks PJ. I didn't think about checking the fuses. I think the connection is fine, but I will clean that also. I think I am going to go to try to get my hands on a scanner tomorrow or Monday too. I just don't understand why it ran so good the first crank and then got worse to the point of no start.
If the fuse (22?) is blown it won't start. Same with the connection to the IPR. That fuse also feeds the bowl heater that is no longer there. Just a thought. There could just be air still in the system. Cranking that engine over a bunch will fry your starter so take it easy.
