1993 F-150 4x4 5.8l S/C S/B I need to replace the headlight assemly on my truck as it is leaking and there is even a piece of light metal inside which is causing rust inside the assembly. I have been able to figure out how to get headlight lense assembly out but can't figure out how to get the chrome off which blocks the assembly from coming out. There are two screws on top under hood these aren't a problem but can't get bottom out.Does a person have to take off the metal spoiler from underneath grill or is their a simpler way? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
The chrome piece around the light is called the headlamp door. After you remove the 2 screws on top the door just pulls out. There are clips on the bottom of it if I remember right.
Here is what the manual says..........
Headlamp Assembly
Removal
Remove radiator air deflector from radiator support.
Remove two screws and two nuts retaining headlamp door (13064).
Pull headlamp door from vehicle. Remove three bulbs and sockets.
Disconnect engine control sensor wiring (12A581) from headlamp bulb (13007).
Remove two retainers attaching upper two attachments of headlamp (13008).
Turn horizontal headlamp adjusting screw (13032) completely out of the adjusting nut.
Pull headlamp from vehicle.
Installation
Follow removal procedures in reverse order.
Tighten screws to 1.4-2.3 Nm (13-20 lb-in). Tighten nuts to 4-7 Nm (36-61 lb-in).
Check headlamp aim. Refer to Headlamp in the Adjustments portion of this section.
I have some headlights if you need them but it's pretty simple. To get the chrome piece off you have to remove the two screws on the top. Then remove the battery and the coolant/washer tank (I was able to just move it aside). Then there are two studs behind the turn signal lights, gotta remove those two nuts. Then remove the bulb sockets and the chrome piece/turn signal comes out. You have to remove the turn signals with it, because the turn signals are attached to that chrome trim. I found the easiest way to remove the headlights is to just unscrew them where the adjustment screws are. Then, remove the adjustment screws from the new headlights, and switch them. My headlights came off my 95 when I got the diamond lights. Perfect condition no yellowing. Private message me if you want to.
You can find illustrated instructions here. It's easy to alignt the headlights: just find an empty road at night and stop in your lane (without steering either way), then pop the hood and turn the adjusting screws until the spots are in front of each tire about 100' away. Test drive and repeat until you have them where you like.
