Good afternoon folks.I'm in the process of flushing my old coolant,in preperation for a new water pump and ELC,and I have a question about Gooch's procedure.I can't for the life of me get the pass side engine drain plug to budge,if I remove the starter, sure no problem, but I really don't want to R&R that thing 2 or 3 times.I have clear water(distilled)flushing from rad and driver side plug.Am I ok to not remove pass side to drain?
Thanks.
Without using the universal swivel, I found I couldn't get the tool to seat properly which kept me from getting a good enough torque on the plug.
Also, I know Gooch suggests removing the passenger side plug without using an extension, but I used one, with a wobble on the end. It can be a little tricky, but it worked well for me.
Has anyone used the old Prestone flush and fill kit?? I used to use them on older Ford gassers of mine and thought they did a pretty good job of flushing everything out.
Update.I tried the swivel and an extension to get the pass side plug out,no budge at all,so I just flushed one more time.Put on new water pump, tstat and housing, upper and lower rad hoses, belt, degas bottle and Prestone HD ELC.Everything went pretty smoothly with instructions from FTE.I did have 2 issues.1-Autozone and Oriellys didn't have the tool to hold the fan pulley.Autozone wanted to sell me a 3 jaw puller to get the fan off,I smiled and said no thanks.Napa doesn't rent tools anymore, but they had the set for sale 75.00,and if I would have bought it sunday, they would have given me 15.00 off.I couldn't justify spending that for a one time deal. What I wound up doing is using a rubber strap wrench to hold the pulley with one hand, the 1 7/8 wrench with the other while my wife tapped the wrench with a dead blow, came right off.All in all not a bad job.
The local NAPA sold me just the universal pulley tool for $25, so I did that. the ones in the rental kits were worthless. The real trick was the air chisel I bought from harbor Freight for $15-20. I had the fan off in seconds.

That pass side was quite a bear for me when I did the flush this summer. I finally got it though. Once you figure out the method it was super easy to do. I would think that even though you didn't get it out you should be good on your flush.
