I'm new to the V10, just got my 03 a few months ago. Lately when idling, a roaring/droning sound comes from the airbox. I swapped to a Volant CAI when I first got the truck but the roaring started in the past couple of weeks. I can hear it at idle but when I get the revs up it stops. If I take the top off the Volant it gets even louder. I'm going to check all the clamps on the airbox and do a bit more investigation but wanted to see if anyone else has heard of the problem. May even put the stock airbox back on and see if it continues.
Any ideas?
However, if the IAC is stuck open and the PCM is trying like the devil to keep the idle down, it'll make a lot of intake noise.
Pinch the hose going to the IAC and see if the noise subsides.
Mine just recently started doing it. I cleaned the IAC when I installed the Volant but that doesn't mean anything. I'll pinch the hose the next time it acts up and see what happens. Let you know about the outcome.
Thanks, Krewat.

Looks like you were right Art. Pinched the hose to the IAC and the noise is muffled. Picked up a new IAC from NAPA, installed it the other day and so far so good. The truck idles smoother now too. The NAPA/Echlin part appears to be better quality and actually says Made in the USA.
Thanks again.
