Heater Problems
Normally, I post in the 67-79 F150 Topic Area, but my other Ford is acting up.
It is a 1998 Windstar, and lately, I either have heat or I don't. At first I thought it was the heater core, but after talking with a local mechanic at both a Ford Dealer and a local shop, I need some additional advice to make me smart before I drop some $$.
Here is the prob:
Engine warms to operating temp. I turn on Defrost, floor heat, etc, and if she is in a good mode, I get heat, if not, cold air. I even get cold air with the temp selector on heat with the fan selector on vent...fo figure.
The two mechanics said it sounds like the Blend Door or the cables running to the Blend door. Cost, well depends on where I take it, but I'm looking at between $300-500, and of course, the warrenty doesn't cover the blend door.
The hoses going to and from the radiator are hot. I had the system flushed and the thermostat changed about 4 months ago.
Any ideas or comments are greatly appreciated.

Also I would see how much resistance is in the SELECT lever on your dash (floor,vent,panel,etc)..maybe the cable came loose..you likely can see the cable move the "door" under the hood near the firewall.
Either coolant isnt cirulating in your core
Or the door isnt open (try the (HOT/COLD lever/ cable..look to see if it moves..how much resistance is in the lever) ..i usually feel a "thud" in the lever when i go from HOT to COLD
sounds like somethign simple..you can remove the interir dash bezel panel to see if the cable fell off the levers
I just had that problem on my 99 windstar. In my case the air-blend door was busted was busted and needed to be replaced. To do this the whole dash board needed to come off, the heater case removed and the a/c recharged. It was broken because the actuator motor was slipping (making a clanging noise). My check engine light also came on.
This was not cheap! Hope your problem is not the same!
