6.0L Power Stroke Diesel 2003 - 2007 F250, F350 pickup and F350+ Cab Chassis, 2003 - 2005 Excursion and 2003 - 2009 van

Does anyone have a 6.0 over 100k with no major repairs yet?

I have an 03 f-250 4x4 crew cab with 105,000 miles. I pull a 10,000 plus lb 5th weel camper with. I did have a slite rear main oil leak that the dealer fixed at no charge. Later i did have to replace the fuel pump.

Ya'll are crazy, all 6.0's are destined to break, and each and everyone of them is plagued with massive catastrophic repeat failures. The 7.3 was the best engine EVER made, I cannot understand why ford would dump that, stupidest thing they ever did.

(my poor attempt at sarcasm, incase you didnt get it)

honest

I would love to be one of the guys one here with few or no problems on my 6.0 but thats just not the case. Purchased an 06 HD model last october with 43k. Oasis report showed HG replaced once and then a reman motor and trans put in around 30k. It was obvious the previous owner beat on the truck but I do not. Started reading this forum since I purchased the vehicle and do maintaintance at the perscribed intervals. 5k oil changes, Racor filters, no chip or other performance enhancers, Coolant filter and Edge insight gauges. Since I've had the truck, the dealer under warranty has replaced the FICM, rebuilt the turbo because of a broken unison ring and now has it for a busted EGR cooler and is replacing the oil cooler. No advanced warning on the EGR cooler, Eoc, eot temps never more than 8 degrees differencial. What I am saying is that its great that these guys are not having problems, but come june when my warranty expires I wont be able to afford this truck anymore. I must have a Lemon.

And you bought it knowing that? Hope you got a good deal, but you can't blame the 6.0L IMO. Lots of similar stories w/ other abused makes and models ........ Stuck turbo's, overboosts, head gaskets, and EGR coolers all go together - have a bad experience w/ one, and possibly (probably) expect several of these in series.

Anyway, this is a "any reliable 100k mile + thread". I don't mean to be rude, but your post is simply off topic from the OP's initial request (and so is mine for that matter I guess ....).

bought it

yeah bismic I bought it thinking with a new motor and following the maintenance schedule I found on here I would be fine. How does a Ficm, Unison ring or EGR cooler, Oil cooler go on a motor with such low mileage when I take care of this thing like its new? The guy beat the old motor.....its been replaced. Why am I having problems on this remaned motor?

I don't buy it. I think the guy needs to know that everything doesn't always turn out rosy even if you follow the maintenance and advice to a T.

problems

the parts you are say are going bad probably were taken off the old motor.a new motor could be just a short block or a long block and not have the failing parts your describing.

Sorry to be hard on you, but I would have been worried about the extent of new parts that came (or did not come) w/ the reman'ed motor (ie did they re-use critical components like EGR coolers). I could easily be wrong, but I am skeptical that way. After overboost and head gaskets, the EGR cooler is an eventual issue IMO, along w/ other potential issues w/ extra heat that comes w/ leaking head gaskets. The FICM is unfortunately an eventual weak point, like the fuel pressure regulator spring, and the 05 and up STC fittings. I do see your point on the expectation of starting "w/ a clean slate".

Edit .... sandman beat me to it!

Sorry

Bismic,

I'm not trying to be an *** either. You r one of the "go-to" guys on here and I respect your opinion tremendously. I agonized over the purchase before pulling the pin...trust me. I was coming from a V-10 HD truck (2005) and this HD (2006) with the 6.0L at the same dealer just did it for me. I knew the truck could have issues because of the previous owner but I didn't expect 3 different components within a year to go bad. The tech at my dealership has no answers either.

Sorry to hijack the thread, I love the 6.0 and I hope you guys get many many miles of trouble free driving out of your trucks. I hope my issues get fixed and I can enjoy my truck as well. Good luck
