I am going to be putting super swamper thornbirds 30x11.5s on my 93 f-150 i will be running them on 15x10 rims. My first question is will they rub when i turn. My next question is will they stick out past the fender at all because in maine the tires cant stick out past the fender at all or it wont pass inspection. Does anyone run this combination????
I assume it's a 4wd truck. I have 32/11.5s with 7.5" wheels. If it sticks out past the fender, or it rubs, all depends on the backspacing of the wheels.
they probably will stick out an inch or two if you are gonna put 15x10 inch wheels on it. it will look good. as for the thornbirds, unless you are getting a killer deal on them, i wouldnt recomend them for anything in the mud. they are basicly an agresive looking all terrain tire. go with super swamper TSL or TSL S/X. youl thank me later

how many lifted trucks ever see mud? not many, even if they are 4wd. a 30x11.5 isnt even a very big tire. i run 32x11.5 on a lifted 2wd (still not a big tire) and have no complaints, sure i wont beable to go through lots of mud, even though i want to, its still great to drive around and pick up chicks. even with 2wd i can still get around when i do go mess around. i do agree on the ricers, but trucks are completely different. most 4wd trucks maybe see 4wd maybe once every year to see if its still working. unless you are trying to go bogging or working at the ranch there is absolutely nothing wrong with going for show
well yeah i didnt mean to go off on that post but it looked like it. i just meant that i dont think there anything wrong with lifting for looks (by the way i like my bfg allterrains) by the way am i abnormal for stating my opinion? haha
your right man its entirely my own opinion, im not attacking anybody, so why bicker
edit: well to tell you the truth i thought the guy said he had a 2wd truck but i guess i was wrong. sorry for the irrelevant post
Yes my truck is Four wheel drive. I do use it quite a bit in the winter time because i live in maine so its good for slippery roads. Why would someone not want there car or truck to look nice. I think it would sensles to put 235/75s on a truck if your trying to make it look nice. So why not go with a mud tire make it look good and just not take it to some mud hole and beat the **** out of it. Its just my opinion though im not trying to start a flame war or anything so sorry if anyone gets offended by what i side.
P.S-does anyone else have any info on the topic that i posted????
good point squigs. but i just looked on www.ntwonline.com and the 30x11.5x15 thornbirds are $120 and the better looking and better performing supwer swamper tsl 31x10.50x15 is only $110 and the tsl radial is only 115. so it would be chaeper for you to get the better performing tire. and the 31s will look better on your rig. i think the thornbirds wear out just as fast as the tsl do with proper inflation and rotation. just tryin to save ya some money.
My wheels are stock, they rub on the radius arm at full turn but it's not problematic. You ask for more information but, I said that whether or not it rubs/sticks out, depends on the backspacing of the wheel you have so I'm a little confused. Mine do not stick out, and have a little room to spare.
I really like the looks of the thornbirds but i want a small low profile wide tire i just like how wide tires look on trucks i dont really like tall tires. I guess its just my opinion but thanks for the info anyway.
I have to say, other than a little highway noise, I love my Thornbirds (but I do like the noise - sounds cool). They get me out of some bad situations. I use my 4wd a couple of times per week. If I didn't, I would have put a big highway tire on, not Tbirds.
If your 15X10's have the standard backsets that come on most aftermarket wheels for our trucks, then yes 30X11.50X15 will stick out past your fenders, espeically the Thordbirds with the big side lugs. And yes they will most likly rub on the radius arms. I have 33X12.50X15's mounted on 15X8's with the standard backspacing and my tires are 1/2" past the top of the fenders and rub the passager side arm at full lock. I also have a set of 15X10's with 31X10.50X15, that are lug sentric (were the rims are shifted out from the truck) and with these the tires are about 1 1/2 inches past the fenders, but don't rub even with 33X12.5's mounted on them.
On thing is that with wider tires on your truck is will handle completey different in snow, you will be all over the place and will hardly sitck to the road. Its so bad on my truck that I am thinking about getting either 30X9.50's again or running the 235/75/15's again for winter tires. With my truck if we even get an inch of snow I have to put it in 4wd because otherwise it all over the place. Like just Monday we got 1.5 inches of snow. On secondary and backroads, were the roads were clear that morning, afterwork with the snow, i had my truck in OD at 25-30 mph and the backend would breaklose and walk all over the place
