Heating Problems...Which is your opinion to do first.

My expy is having some heating issues. The rear heat will practicly burn your hand it is so warm, but the front air is luke warm at best, and the air is not as hard blowing out as the rear air with both on high. I searched on here and have narrowed it down to three possibilities. A bad blend door/acuator, front heater core, or bad temp control ****. Which of these things would be were you start? I am leaning toward the heater core unfortunatly because I have been smelling just a slight whiff of antifreeze when I first turn on the heat. I wish it was not this cause I replaced the heater core on my f-150 twice and remember how much of a pain in the rear it is. Am I missing anything? Do you guys think I am on the right track? Any help would be great.

Considering that you can smell anti-freeze I would say yes, you're on the right track. The reduced airflow could be due to dirt build-up on the outside of the heater core which is preventing the air flowing through it freely.

***UPDATE***

I noticed while driving the expy the other day that if I turn the temp **** all the way to cold and wait for it to blow cold, and if I turned it all the way hot real quick it would blow hot for a couple of seconds and then went back to luke warm at best. This to me sounds kind of like the blend door problem. What do you guys think?

Nope, it sounds like it's the heater core. Without the air flowing across it, as in when the control **** is turned to cold, the heater core has a chance to heat up. There is a coolant flow restriction within the HC preventing it from being able to heat up fast enough to replace the heat that the flowing air is removing.

Alright alloro, thanks for your help. I was hoping to get out of changing the heater core in the freezeing cold but I guess no such luck. Does anybody have a step by step write up on how to do this on an expy?
