i have a 74 f100 with a 400m.recently i replaced the battery,
solenoid,alternator,and voltage regulator.now that i have done
this my headlites and dash lites seem tohave a surge from
normal to too brite! is it possible that my system is overcharging?
Install a voltmeter to know for sure. The regulator supplies current to the field terminal of the alternator to maintain the output at around 14 volts. The field current will vary according to the load and the rpm.
If the regulator does not have it's input at the S term (Factory ammeter) or I term (idiot light), it will not have any output at the F term. Check the wiring for loose connections and be sure the regulator is grounded.
