2003 Head unit INSTALL HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Hey guys. Trying to install a Pioneer AVH-P3200DVD double din unit. I've already cut the opening bigger to fit the new head unit.

MY PROBLEM: There are TWO (2) wire harnesses that connected to the Factory CD/ Cassette Player. The wire harness I ordered is ONLY ONE (1). From what I'm seeing, the TWO wire harnesses point to "Premium Sound" with an external Ford amp. Is this TRUE? Or can I just hook up the wire harness I have and everything will be ok; basicly just not use the other factory harness??/---DirtySCREW

The other plug for your premium sound is for your sub under the seat. Without it, it will not work. If you look at your harness that you bought for your stereo, you will see that ALL the wires are used. This means that everything in the truck should work with the exception of the sub. I don't know where you purchased it from, but if you would have gone with Crutchfield, they would have addressed the issue and sent you the required harnesses to maintain ALL functions. One of the first things they ask is what type of truck you have and what options are in it..... premium sound, factory sub, ect. I am sure there is a work around but without a google search, i cannot tell you if it's possible.
I know that with my 04, I had the factory head unit with 6 CD changer. I also did not have the factory sub. The wiring harness was there though. I installed a Bazooka EL8 under the rear seat and used the factory harness for power, ground, and switch for the amp. I then only had to run a set of RCA cables.
Try google searching "factory ford premium sound aftermarket wiring harness" See if it turns anything up. You might could try to call Crutchfield and see if they can point you in the right direction or go to a local stereo shop.

Thanks for the reply....but I don't have a factory sub. And personally I don't think I have "premium sound". The factory 1.5 DIN unit is a CD/Cassette. I was thinking maybe one harness powered the CD and the other the cassette. When I started looking online, some people were saying 2 wire harnesses indicated Premium sound. That may be on some, but in my case I don't believe it is so. I've gotten some replies on other Ford forums saying that they've encountered the same issue and only hooked up the one harness and everything works.--------DirtySCREW

I installed that exact same head unit and only had one connector on my 02. With your new unit and wiring adapter you should be able to make a temporary connection and see if it will work with what you have. I got the HD radio option and have been very happy with that addition. I also use the display for my backup camera. There is a direct connection with a reverse sense for that.
