Not sure about the C4, but the C6 defenentlly will fit, only if it came off the same engine family as what ever engine you have in yours. 300 6cyl, 302 and 351 is 1 type, 460 is a different bell housing, and Diesels have a unique bell housing.

well i was told a c4 was stronger then the others except the c6 was the strongest.will I have the same problems installing the c4 or c6 as i would with the aod?will my speedo still work?down shift cable?do all 5.0 f150 have the same upper intake and throttle bodies so I can get a bracket to put on mine for the detent cable?
also the c4 and c6 is literly the same isnt it?
honestly... I would go with the 3spd C6... it is rugged and super cheap to find and rebuild one! I mean seriously Ford used the C6 design for 20-30-40 years...??? AOD would only be better if you want a 4spd auto tranny for highway driving... if you rebuilt a C6 and put it in your truck the rest of the truck would be broken and in the scrap yard before the tranny gave out... I would private message "hav24wheel" and ask him how to put a resistor in... You need to in order to fool your computer since the E40D is a computer controled tranny... the computer will look for the tranny and will start acting up if it doesn't find said tranny... IE trick the computer with a resistor... hav24wheel just swapped his E40D with a ZF so he'll fill you in...

No... the C4 can't handle near the power and torque a C6 is able to... C6's are used commonly for dragstrip racers and used from 1966-1996 from what i read... C6's will unfortunatly suck more gas down...
