Wheel Stuck On drum

1995 Supercab, 4.9, manual

Can't get left rear wheel off, it's rusted to the drum. Tried propane torch, beating on tire with big hammer, no luck. Any other ideas that might help to get the wheel off?

I have heard of this trick:

Put the lug nuts back on but leave them a little loose. Put the truck back on the ground and pull it forward (or backward) a few feet. You might also get a couple of buddies and rock it side to side.

I have never tried this. Sounds like it might just work.

If you get it off. Put anti-seize on it before putting it back on.

Try some PB blaster. This is why i like to take the tires off accasionally, wouldn't want to be stuck on the side of the road and not able to get my tire off lol.

They are steel wheels. Tired the kick the heck out it and driving with the lug nuts loose, still rusted on.

Hi-
I'm sort of serious here so please be carefull. Go four wheeling in it with lug nuts loose. And buy aluminum rims so this doesn't happen anymore

I watched my service department handle this on a class 8 truck. They loosened the lug nuts. Drove through the parking lot at about 5mph. Then quickly swerved back and forth. Took just a moment.

I'd smash it with a sledge hammer first. If you do the driving around w/o tightened lug nuts, make sure the lug nuts aren't too far away so the tire isn't wobbling.

I may be way off base here, but you have tried adjusting the brakes down and removing the entire wheel/drum "assembly"--right?? Once it's off the truck, it might be easier to beat the drum off the rim...

A 20 pounder works good and get the biggest and strongest freind to swing and bash the sh-t out of it. or a small tactical exsplosive charge depends how creative you can be.

Finally got the wheel off. After beating, spraying and kicking, I put the lugs nuts back on but left them about 1/4 " from the rim. Then drove into the street and put the wheel on ice, let out the clutch to get the wheel spinning forward and moved forward until the wheel hit dry pavement. Did this a few times in reverse and forward and the wheel finally broke loose.
Thanks everyone for replying.

If you still have a chance, use a bit of emery cloth to take some of the crud off of the area that the rim seats to, not a whole bunch but just a bit.

The best way to get a tire that is seized on off, is to leave it fully aired up (if you had deflated it), and take a smaller sledge and hit the side wall of the tire near the tread, and work your way around the tire by rotating it, in stead of beating on the rim. Not only is it a lot easier, but it won't beat up your rims, and or weaken up your lugs.

wd 40 or something squirted on would also be benefitial.

I did clean up the brake drum and wheel with 80 grit sandpaper and added a thin layer of anti-seze material. Next time it will be a lot easier to remove.
Note: I wasn't trying to get the tire off the rim, just the rim off of the brake drum.
