thermostat question?

when i start my truck up when its cold out if i were to let it sit and idle until the heat was warm in there before i left it would have to sit like 30min. or more before i could leave. im pretty sure this is normal with a diesel. i was told the other day there truck 99 f-250 only takes like 5 min or so to warm up. i was told this is because i guess they changed out the thermostat guessing i temp one. guess it cost like 30 bucks more. so just wondering how true this was and if anyone else has done this. just looking for more info on this.

A thermostat wont change how fast it warms up just how warm it allows the engine to get once it reaches normal operating temp.just plug the block heater about 3 hrs before you leave in if you want instant heat. I have mine set up on a heavy duty timer set 3 hours before I go to work

A block heater will help a lot. Plus on the mornings that I forget to plug it in, I start it, let it idle for a few minutes then drive it easy. It will warm up faster under a load verses just idling.
