looking to wire up my new stereo in the morning and need some advice. I was looking for a source of constant power and found the connector shown in the first photo has power and is not being used. My diagram does not seem to say where this goes (or I am overlooking it). Does anyone know what it is supposed to go to? The wires are lime green and yellow and are fused into one connector.
Second question...my cigarette lighter is not connected to anything would it be drawing too much power to tap that same wire to power that? I would be using it to power my iPod.
I could be wrong, but I think I ran into the same unused connector and I believe it went to the lighter or the glove box light (80% sure its lighter). Sorry I don't have a for sure answer, it's been awhile since I rewired, but maybe with others it will help poll an answer. Have fun with the rewiring, I know I did trying to track down all the disconnected and dead end cut wires.
What you have come to is a junction point, i have found many in my truck. All trucks were run with the same harness (depending on motor). This was done so that whatever "package" was ordered on the truck would be simple to install. It is sufficient power for a radio and/or ipod through the cigarette lighter.
If I might make a suggestion... Rather than do like so many previous owners have done and just find something that appears to be unused and tapping it for who knows how many different things and causing who knows how many different problems...
Find a good place to put a terminal block or a fuse block and connect that directly back to the battery. If you need anything that is hot only with the key on, tap into the factory harness only far enough to pick up a relay.
This will make your wiring that much easier to understand and troubleshoot and will leave the factory wiring that much easier to understand and troubleshoot. It will also prevent electrical gremlins from coming into play.
