I'm looking for a good reman'd 5.4 engine for my 1998 Expedition. Any suggestions on companies to consider and/or avoid?
I've noticed that Marshal is the cheapest everywhere I look. Any reason why? I don't want to buy one that is basically crap but I also don't want to way overpay for nothing special.
I don't know about Marshall but you can't go wrong with a Jasper---good company and a great warranty too. I'd also look into what the local Ford dealer has---you typically need only the long block anyway and better to have someone local in the event the warranty needs to be applied.
For a reman you would be best off with Ford or Jasper. If you are a DIYer Ford will need to check the install to validate the warrantee. To save a bunch of money you might do a web search for http://www.lkqcorp.com/location/sites.asp?L=7as they have good parts and a good warrantee. They are a huge company and own a lot of the Pick-N-Pull type of yards around the country. I bought a 5.4 DOHC for my Navigator there a year ago and it's still running great.
Agree 100% with LKQ----a huge company that is so well organized it almost defies description. I've used them myself and don't hesitate at all calling when I'm looking for anything in the salvage market.

That's the place to call if you want to save a couple thousand on an engine.
