well i'm trying to upgrade my 351 for better fuel mileage and towing performance and have a few questions. So far i have long tube headers, no cats, no air pump and open element air filters on it. Next i'm thinking of 1.7 rockers, timing and ignition upgrade, and transcommand. Am i on the right track? If my research is right i need pedestal mount rockers? thanks for the help.
What size truck is this in and what gearing and tires does it have?
I'm going to suggest you put the stock airbox back on it especially if the truck is mass air, just substitute an intake snorkle from an I6 or 460 truck.. that's the part that runs from the airbox to the rad support. The main reason for this is because these open filters suck in hot air from the engine compartment instead of cooler air from outside the vehicle and that decreases fuel milage, thay have also been shown to disrupt airflow over the MAF sensor which also has a negative effect on fuel milage.
Otherwise you're on the right track and yes you want pedistal mount rockers for this motor.
1990 f150 35's on it and i regeared to 4.56. i don't have the stock airbox because i wrecked it and just put different filters on it, doesn't have maf not new enough
